Abuses of power by the police seem to be increasing...

What we are sadly seeing is a new extortion of money racket where fines are being handed out as a new revenue source for the police to collect regardless of whether an individual has an exemption or not.

Watch how this officer tries to intimidate a young man into taking a fine. What he didn't count on is the fact that he knows his rights, is aware of the power of common law and that policing by consent actually means you are not obliged to take a fine when it is offered:

Our young man handles himself well and honourably withholds his consent where no law has been broken. It is worth noting that this is a young black man who is accused of being arrogant by officers who are in fact rude and threatening, and unlawfully detaining him. The officers are left humiliated by the end of the video. We can learn much from this small incident and as a public we need to be fully aware of our rights in order to understand that the police are not allowed to make baseless claims, touch or assault any of us for no good reason or be spoken down to. We must all show courage in the face of inequity and reject this fast moving police state from installing itself fully into our daily lives.
